Mirador de Chipeque, Scenic viewpoint in Santa Úrsula, Tenerife, Spain
The Mirador de Chipeque, also called the Mirador de Cumbres del Norte, is a scenic viewpoint in Santa Úrsula on Tenerife, sitting at roughly 1,830 meters (about 6,000 feet) above sea level. The platform has a semicircular shape that allows a nearly 180-degree view, with the Teide volcano rising directly ahead and the Valle de La Orotava stretching out below toward the coast.
The viewpoint sits along the TF-24, a mountain road built during the 20th century to open the highland interior of Tenerife to travelers. As traffic along the route grew, this stop became an established resting point between La Esperanza and the Teide National Park.
The viewpoint is also known as the Mirador de Cumbres del Norte, a name meaning "northern heights" that directly describes its position on the island's northern ridge. Visitors often stop here on their way to or from Teide National Park, making it a natural pause point along a route that many travelers follow across the highlands.
The viewpoint is free to visit and open at all hours, with a small parking area right next to the lookout on the TF-24. At this elevation, temperatures can drop sharply even on sunny days, so a warm layer is worth having on hand whatever time of year you visit.
On some mornings the valley below fills with a thick layer of cloud while the viewpoint stays in full sun, a phenomenon called the sea of clouds that makes the hills around it look like islands floating above the mist. The low light pollution at this elevation also makes it a good place to watch the Milky Way on clear nights.
