Dolmen del Trull

Dolmen del Trull, Neolithic dolmen in Vilalba Sasserra, Spain.

Dolmen del Trull is a Stone Age burial chamber made of six granite slabs that have collapsed and now form a megalithic ruin. The remains sit near a farmhouse at the edge of the municipality of Vilalba Sasserra.

This burial chamber was built during the Stone Age thousands of years ago, when people in the region began constructing permanent structures. It belongs to a group of megalithic buildings scattered across Catalonia that show how widespread this tradition was.

The dolmen held spiritual meaning for early communities, serving as a place where the deceased were laid to rest. This type of structure shows how important it was to these people to honor their dead at a shared location.

The site is open to walk around and can be reached on foot, though it sits in a rural area with no special facilities. Good footwear is wise since the ground is uneven and you approach it through fields.

Beneath the granite stones lie soil layers that archaeologists have examined to learn more about the age and construction of the structure. These layers provide clues about how these cultures built their monuments thousands of years ago.
