Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, International airport in Bole district, Ethiopia.
Addis Ababa Bole International Airport is an international airport in Bole district with two terminals serving domestic and international flights. The facility covers more than seven square kilometers and offers services for passengers traveling through or connecting in East Africa.
The airport opened in 1961 as Haile Selassie I International Airport and initially served smaller aircraft of the era. A new terminal opened in 2003, greatly expanding capacity and bringing modern facilities for growing passenger numbers.
Ethiopian Airlines uses the airport as its main hub, connecting the country with destinations across four continents. Passengers often see crews in traditional attire and experience a mix of African travelers, business visitors, and tourists moving through the halls.
Terminal 1 handles domestic flights with 16 check-in counters, while Terminal 2 manages international departures with 74 counters. Travelers should allow extra time for security checks, especially for international connections during morning and evening peak hours.
A transit hotel with 97 rooms sits inside the airport and offers rest for travelers with longer layovers between flights. Twelve counters provide visas on arrival, allowing passengers to complete formalities right after landing.
