The Finnish State Guesthouse is a three-story brick and stone building in the Munkkiniemi neighborhood of Helsinki. It spans approximately 2,500 square meters and contains eleven bedrooms, along with a sauna and swimming pool.
The building was completed in 1984 based on designs by architect Einari Teräsvirta, who created a structure that fits into its surroundings. It was built to serve as a modern reception venue for foreign leaders during official visits.
The name reflects its role in hosting government visitors and diplomacy. The building embodies Finnish values of respectful hospitality through its understated design that balances formality with comfort.
The building sits in a quiet, wooded area near the Laajalahti inlet with good views of the surroundings. Access is straightforward since it is located close to other parts of Helsinki and easily reachable from there.
The interior was designed by Antti Nurmesniemi and includes furniture by renowned Finnish designer Alvar Aalto. Rooms feel bright and airy with white walls, large windows, and abundant natural wood and white marble.
