Kotkaniemi, Former presidential farm and museum in Luumäki, Finland
Kotkaniemi is a former farm and residence on the shores of Lake Kivijärvi that preserves the rooms, furniture, and personal objects from President P.E. Svinhufvud's period of residence. The property includes the main building, surrounding grounds, and several outbuildings that remain part of the estate today.
The property began as a rural judge's residence built in 1898 and became President Svinhufvud's home after he acquired it in 1908. Under his ownership, it developed into a private retreat for his family.
The museum displays original furniture and personal objects that show how President Svinhufvud and his wife Ellen lived on the property during their time here.
The site is open from May through September and provides visitors with access to a café, conference facilities, a nature trail, and a lakeside sauna during the warmer months. Plan your visit for the summer season to experience all available amenities.
The garden surrounding the main building has been carefully restored to reflect its appearance from the 1930s and gives visitors an authentic glimpse of that era. The garden's design reveals how green spaces were arranged and maintained during that time.
