Kaisa House, University library in Helsinki, Finland
Kaisa House is the main library of the University of Helsinki located at Fabianinkatu 30, serving students and researchers across the university. The building features a curved brick exterior with large arched windows and spans multiple floors designed for different types of work and study.
The building was completed in 2012 by architecture firm Anttinen Oiva arkkitehdit Oy, replacing earlier structures on the site. Its foundation connected to existing basement levels from the original development.
The library contains extensive academic collections covering arts, educational sciences, law, theology, and social sciences for Finnish university students and researchers.
The building is organized across multiple floors with soundproof workspaces, quiet reading areas, and group study zones suited to different needs. The layout is clearly structured to help visitors find what they need without confusion.
Aligned ceiling openings throughout the interior create distinct functional zones and subtly separate different work areas. This design choice allows light to flow naturally while keeping quieter spaces apart from more active study zones.
