Honkanummi Cemetery Chapels

Honkanummi Cemetery Chapels consist of two separate worship spaces with different sizes and capacities. The larger chapel holds 120 people, while the smaller accommodates 60, and both rooms are equipped with organs.

The grounds originally served as a military training area before being transformed into a cemetery in the mid-20th century. This location became Finland's largest burial ground with widespread importance for the community.

The chapel front displays a relief sculpture by artist Johan Vikainen, reflecting Finnish church art of the 1950s modern period. This artwork forms part of the architectural character that visitors notice upon arrival.

Visitors should note that the site has different operating hours on different days and requires respectful conduct. The burial areas are accessible on foot, and it is advisable to allow sufficient time to explore the chapels and grounds.

The chapels use strategically positioned windows to allow natural light to fill the interior spaces and create a special atmosphere. This light design adds an extra dimension to the rooms and is a notable architectural feature.
