Sudentassu, Pedestrian and bicycle bridge in Kuninkaanmäki, Finland.
Sudentassu is a pedestrian and bicycle bridge spanning approximately 126 meters across Vanha Porvoontie road, connecting a recreational area with a national park. It sits roughly 20 meters above the road below and measures about 5 meters wide.
Construction began in May 2019 and the bridge opened to the public in December 2019. Following the opening, trails were developed in the surrounding areas to enhance connections between the two destinations.
The name Sudentassu came from a public competition with more than 500 submissions and refers to the wolf featured in Sipoo's coat of arms and the area's wildlife heritage.
The bridge features treated wood surfaces and illuminated railings that make crossing safe during day and night. Its wide platform and sturdy steel supports make it easy to access and use.
The bridge won the Bridge of the Year award in 2021, recognizing its innovative Corten steel construction. This material forms a protective rust layer that requires less maintenance than standard steel bridges.
