Kuhakoski, Rapids in Perttula, Nurmijärvi, Finland
Kuhakoski is a rapids section on the Luhtajoki River stretching about 150 meters with a drop of roughly 16 meters across three cascading water formations. The water flows with varying intensity and changes notably with the seasons.
From the early 1500s, four mills used the power of these rapids to serve nearby villages. A power station later took over this role in the 1900s and modernized the region's energy supply.
The power station built here in 1910 shows how water power helped bring modern electricity to nearby homes and communities.
Visit in spring or fall when the water is more noticeably active and loud. You can walk around the area easily and view the rapids from various spots along the bank.
The northern bank holds a natural flower meadow with bluebells and maiden pinks growing among the rocks, adding unexpected botanical interest to the rushing water. These plants thrive in the damp setting and create a quiet spot amid the flowing chaos.
