Thomas Bohier acquired the property in 1513 and constructed this residence between 1515 and 1521, replacing an old mill while keeping its original medieval keep.

The castle opens every day of the year, with guided tours available in multiple languages and seasonal night illuminations during summer months.
During World War II, the castle served as an escape route between Nazi-occupied northern France and the free southern zone through its gallery across the river.
