The Abbey of Saint-Arnould stands near the former medieval ramparts, featuring classical architecture with preserved elements including a cloister, refectory, and sacristy.
Founded in the sixth century, the abbey received its name in 717 after housing the relics of Arnulf of Metz, becoming a burial place for Charlemagne's family.
The structure contains a remarkable Pietà from 1520, rediscovered in 1990 during construction work, representing medieval religious art in northeastern France.
The abbey buildings now serve as headquarters for the Cercle des Officers of Metz, with sections open for architectural study and historical research.
During the ninth century Norman invasion, the abbey experienced destruction but maintained its position as a religious center through multiple reconstructions.
