Ansouis, Medieval village in Luberon, France

Ansouis is a village sitting on elevated ground in the Vaucluse region, positioned between the Luberon massif and the Durance river. Narrow stone streets wind through the settlement, and a castle with furnished rooms and formal gardens anchors the center.

The castle began as a fortress in the 10th century and was rebuilt and expanded through later centuries. These changes show how the region developed and how people adapted the building to new ways of living.

The Church of Saint-Martin shapes the village with its Romanesque design and interior details that show how people built structures in medieval times. Local residents gather here for celebrations that mark the seasons and community moments.

Access to the castle is by guided tour during the warmer months when the village is most comfortable to visit. Wear comfortable shoes because the pathways through the old town are steep and uneven in places.

The village contains a museum that blends natural history objects with art in one unexpected collection. This mix shows how knowledge and creativity were once viewed as connected to each other.
