Forciolo, Hill village in Corsica, France
Forciolo is a small hill village in Corsica, France, sitting at about 300 meters above the river Taravo. Its narrow winding streets are lined with old stone houses, while green hills and rocky outcrops surround the whole settlement.
The village has roots deep in the medieval period, with one house dated to 1428 among its oldest structures. Over the centuries, farming and local crafts kept the settlement alive, and an old water-powered mill later pressed oil before turning to soap production in the late 1800s.
The village square still centers daily life, where neighbors stop to talk and share news. Local craftsmanship remains visible in small workshops, and seasonal gatherings around the church bring families together for simple shared meals and music.
The lanes are narrow and uneven, so footwear with good grip makes walking easier. A small square with a fountain and stone trough offers a natural place to pause and get your bearings before exploring nearby paths.
A short walk from the houses stands the ruined chapel of San Petru di Panicali, its stone walls almost swallowed by the landscape. Visitors who explore the old mill can still see the large stone wheels that once ground local produce by water power.
