Cave of Tuc d'Audoubert, Prehistoric cave art site in Montesquieu-Avantès, France.
The cave extends through underground passages containing 385 Paleolithic images, including rock engravings, paintings, and clay sculptures of animals and abstract symbols.
Three brothers discovered this cave system in 1912, leading archaeologist Emile Cartailhac to document the extensive collection of Magdalenian period artworks dating from 15,000 years ago.
The clay bison sculptures measure 24 inches in length, displaying precise anatomical details and textures crafted directly from materials found within the cave walls.
The cave remains closed to public access, with strict preservation measures protecting the ancient artworks from environmental damage and maintaining their condition.
Preserved footprints of children found near the sculptures indicate the cave served as a location for ceremonial activities during the Upper Paleolithic period.
