Church of St John the Baptist, Romanesque church in Lautenbach, France.

The Church of Saint John the Baptist is a Romanesque building with thick stone walls, rounded arches, and carved capitals characteristic of this style. It features a bell tower and contains multiple altars from different periods inside.

An earlier church at this location was destroyed in 1080 by imperial troops, prompting construction of the current building in the early 12th century. Altars were added later, with the main one installed at the beginning of the 18th century.

The interior displays religious artworks from different periods that visitors encounter while moving through the space. Local families continue to use it for worship and prayer.

The building stands in the center of Lautenbach village and is easily accessible on foot. Visits are possible with respectful conduct, and further information can be obtained locally or through the tourism office.

The pipe organ in the gallery dates from 1771 and remains in place, adding an interesting layer to the musical history of the site. This instrument shows how churches developed their musical practices over generations.
