Larrivour abbey, abbey located in Aube, in France
Larrivour abbey is a small ancient monastery located near the forest of Orient and the Barse river in France. The site preserves old stone walls, a mill building, and farm structures that remain from the period when monks lived and worked here.
The abbey was founded in the middle of the 12th century and became part of the Cistercian order devoted to prayer and work. It survived damage during the Hundred Years War through rebuilding, but was dissolved and mostly destroyed during the French Revolution.
The abbey's name comes from Latin words meaning "the other side of the river". Locals honor this place as a reminder of the long tradition of religious community and rural work that once shaped the surrounding landscape.
The grounds are located in a natural park and are easily accessible via paths and roads from the village. Visitors can explore the ruins at their own pace and spend hours walking slowly through the peaceful surroundings.
In the 16th century the abbey operated its own printing office and became a small center of book production in the region. Visitors often overlook this achievement, which shows how the monks adapted to new technology while spreading knowledge to the wider world.
