Château de la Rochepot

Château de la Rochepot is a medieval castle combining Gothic and Renaissance Revival elements, perched on a hilltop in eastern France. The distinctive red-tiled roof features the characteristic glazed tiles typical of Burgundy and dominates the structure's visual profile.

The castle fell into decline following the French Revolution until Colonel Sadi Carnot received it as a gift from his mother Cécile in 1893. He subsequently undertook a comprehensive restoration that brought the fortress back to its present appearance.

The castle displays characteristic Burgundian features through its glazed tile roof and sturdy stone walls that shape how locals view their landscape. These elements reflect how medieval lords designed their fortifications to serve as both residences and defensive strongholds.

The castle sits on a hillside outside the village and remains visible from public paths; it can be viewed from the exterior. Plan time for a walk up to the fortification and wear comfortable shoes, as the terrain is hilly.

In 2018, French authorities conducted a raid and discovered Salvador Dalí paintings along with a classic Rolls Royce hidden within the castle walls. This unexpected discovery revealed a secret collection that had previously escaped public knowledge.
