Château de Lourmarin

Château de Lourmarin is a castle combining medieval fortress elements with Renaissance additions, featuring carved stone details, spiral staircases, and covered loggias that frame views of the village below. The rooms contain period furnishings and original architectural elements from multiple centuries.

The site began as a defensive fortress in the 12th century overlooking the valley below and was transformed in the 16th century when Louis d'Agoult-Montauban added a Renaissance wing with refined architectural details. A major restoration in 1920 rescued the deteriorating structure and returned it to active use.

The castle has long served as a center for artistic activity, hosting creators and cultural gatherings within its rooms. The Renaissance loggias and courtyards create intimate spaces where visitors encounter the working traditions of the place.

The castle welcomes visitors throughout the year and is easily reached from the surrounding villages in the Luberon region. Plan for walking up multiple staircases and across stone floors, so comfortable footwear is advisable.

The grounds contain an extensive olive orchard planted decades ago that gives the property a distinctly southern character and continues to thrive. Visitors can also discover a wine cellar housed in the basement vaults offering bottles from local vineyards.
