Château de Lourmarin, Renaissance castle in Luberon Region, France
The Château de Lourmarin displays Renaissance architecture with intricate stonework, a spiral staircase, and an Italian-style loggia overlooking the village of Lourmarin.
Built initially as a fortress in the 12th century, the castle underwent major transformations in 1526 when Louis d'Agoult-Montauban added a new Renaissance wing.
The castle supports young artists through a trust established by Robert Laurent-Vibert, who restored the structure in 1920 after purchasing it in declining condition.
Visitors can explore the castle daily except January 1 and December 25, with admission at 7 euros for a 40-minute guided tour of the interior.
The castle grounds feature a 250-tree olive plantation from 1930 and house a wine shop in the basement offering local wines at regular prices.
