Château des Salles à Guingamp

The Château des Salles is a castle in Guingamp built from granite and schist stone with an L-shaped layout. The structure comprises a main building and a perpendicular wing, with a notable staircase that remains visible from the original construction period.

The building was constructed around 1570, replacing an earlier manor house from 1456 at the same location. During the French Revolution it became state property before later returning to the Cleuz du Gage family.

The building displays 16th-century Breton architectural style and reflects the design ideas of its era. The crafted stonework on doors and windows shows the skill of local artisans from that period.

The castle sits about 500 meters west of Château Pierre II and is currently closed to visitors. Ongoing restoration work means you can view it from the outside, but entry inside is not possible at this time.

The entrance displays finely carved stone details from the Renaissance that reveal the craftsmanship of the 1570s builders. These details are easy to miss because they are small and weathered, yet they show the artistic quality of the period.
