Château de Vilmorin, Renaissance castle in Verrières-le-Buisson, France
Château de Vilmorin is a manor house on the northern side of the Bièvre valley featuring three towers and ancillary buildings from various periods. The main buildings and structures come from different eras spanning the 15th through 19th centuries.
The estate was established in the 17th century and underwent significant western expansion between 1765 and 1786. It received protected historical monument status in 1965.
The castle served as a center for botanical work and plant research carried out by the family over many decades. This scientific activity shaped how people understood the place across generations.
The estate is located on Rue d'Estienne d'Orves and allows visitors to explore both the architecture and surrounding gardens. Comfortable footwear is helpful since the grounds sit on a slope.
The estate remained in family hands across generations and never changed ownership through sale. Writer Louise de Vilmorin, who lived there, received famous guests including author André Malraux.
