Abbaye de Bellecombe

Abbaye de Bellecombe is a Cistercian monastery in Yssingeaux featuring Gothic architecture with stone columns and soaring arches characteristic of medieval religious buildings. The complex shows layered construction from different periods, revealing how the site evolved over centuries.

The monastery was founded in 1140 and took its current form when Cistercian nuns relocated there in 1209. It remained active until the French Revolution led to its closure in 1792.
