Castel of Montjeu

Castel of Montjeu is a castle situated within a large forest estate in Broye, with square pavilions positioned at each corner of its structure. The property spans across woodland, several ponds, and formally arranged garden areas.

Construction of the castle began in the early 17th century, and throughout its history it experienced three major fires. Despite these events, the building retained its original structural form.

The gardens were designed by André Le Nôtre, who also created those at Versailles for King Louis XIV. You can observe the formal layouts and structured plantings that shaped French garden design.

The castle is a private residence and does not allow interior visits. Visitors can view the exterior and surrounding landscape from outside the property boundaries.

A wall approximately ten kilometers long circles the entire estate, making it one of the largest enclosed castle properties in the Burgundy region. This extensive boundary demonstrates the historical importance placed on defining and protecting the space.
