Lescar Cathedral

Lescar Cathedral is a Romanesque structure featuring rounded arches and thick stone walls characteristic of medieval construction. Its interior includes decorative elements that span both religious and secular subjects throughout the nave and aisles.

Construction started in 1101 under Bishop Guy de Lons and continued through the 1100s. The building project shaped the region's religious and artistic development over generations.

The mosaic floor depicts hunting scenes while column capitals feature biblical stories of Daniel and Christ from the 1100s. These details reveal how medieval artisans expressed their religious faith through carved and tiled decoration.

The cathedral sits in the Basque region and is accessible by main roads. Visitors should be prepared for stairs and uneven floors when exploring the full interior.

The building served as a burial site for members of the Navarrese royal family. This role made it an important location for local nobility and regional history.
