The Mont-Saint-Martin Abbey exhibits Romanesque architecture with stone walls, decorated columns, and vaulted ceilings throughout its remaining structures.
Founded in the 12th century, the abbey received substantial land donations in 1201 from Knight Guillaume Grébert between Templeux and Lempire regions.
The abbey collected dues from numerous surrounding villages including Bony, Beaurevoir, and Montbrehain, establishing its regional influence over centuries.
The religious complex underwent partial reconstruction in the 19th century after its destruction in 1793 during the French Revolution.
The site received double protection status as a historic monument, with initial registration in 1986 followed by full classification in 1992.
