Anciennes forges de Brocas, Historic factory site in southwestern France, in Brocas, Landes.
The old forges of Brocas are a 19th-century factory site featuring a blast furnace, workshops, worker housing, and storage buildings. The grounds sit within a natural setting with a pond and surrounding trees.
The forges were founded in 1832 and began production in 1833 during a period when the Landes region was developing its iron industry. The site was classified as a historic monument in 2006 to preserve its heritage value.
The forges tell the story of workers and their families during the industrial period of the 1800s. The preserved homes and workshops show how people lived together in this metal-working community.
Visits begin at an old mill building that now houses a museum displaying over 500 cast iron objects. The site is open to visitors with pathways leading through the workshops and residential areas, with informational panels throughout.
The blast furnace from 1832 is the only one of its kind still standing in the region and serves as a silent witness to early industrialization. Its massive stone structure towers above all other buildings and dominates the entire site.
