Basilica of Saint Severinus of Bordeaux

The Basilica of Saint Severinus presents Romanesque architecture with a central tower, decorated porch, and numerous stone carvings across its exterior walls.

Built in the 11th century over a 4th-century Christian necropolis, the basilica became a major stop on the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route.

The stone tympanums depict biblical scenes while the crypt contains early Christian religious artifacts and decorative elements from medieval times.

Located at Place des Martyrs de la Résistance, the basilica opens Tuesday through Sunday from 8:30 AM to 7:30 PM for visits and services.

The epitaph of Flavinus, discovered in the basilica's ancient necropolis, now resides in the Museum of Aquitaine as evidence of early Christianity.
