Basilica of the Visitation, Roman Catholic basilica on Mont Semnoz, Annecy, France

The basilica features a bell tower reaching 72 meters in height, with a main room illuminated by tall stained glass windows depicting religious scenes.

Construction of the basilica began in 1909 under architect Alfred-Henri Recoura and reached completion in 1930, replacing an earlier church damaged during the French Revolution.

The basilica contains the bronze sarcophagi of Saint Francis de Sales and Saint Jeanne de Chantal, founders of the Order of the Visitation in 1610.

Visitors can access the basilica daily from 7:00 to 12:00 and 14:00 to 18:00, with extended hours until 19:00 during July and August.

The bell tower houses a carillon of 38 bells weighing eight tons, including the four-ton Marie Francoise bell that rings across the valley.

Annecy and its lake: the most beautiful places to see between town and mountains

Annecy attracts equally with its lake and its preserved Alpine village ambiance. Between nature, gastronomy, and heritage, the town stretches between the mountains and the clear water of the lake, lined with canals and colorful facades. Strolling along the Thiou, climbing up to the castle, or taking boat trips to Talloires and Veyrier are popular activities. The surroundings are filled with easily accessible peaks, scenic trails, and starred restaurants. Each season offers a reason to return, whether for markets, beaches, or the first snow on the Aravis.
