Bastberg

Bastberg is a summit in Bas-Rhin featuring limestone slopes that rise to approximately 326 meters. The peak affords sweeping views across the Northern Vosges Regional Nature Park.

The mountain attracted Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in 1770, who came to study its geological features and fossil deposits. This early scientific interest helped establish the site as a point of note in the region.

The summit holds significance as a gathering place for locals who value its natural character and views of the surrounding landscape. People use the space to connect with the land and enjoy the open air.

Two parking areas at the base provide convenient access to marked trails that lead to the summit. The walk to the top takes around 15 minutes and suits most visitors regardless of experience level.

The site is home to rare orchid species such as Ophrys fuciflora that grow on its slopes. During summer months, the summit becomes a gathering spot for those observing celestial events.
