Chapelle Notre-Dame du Burgo, chapel located in Morbihan, in France
Chapelle Notre-Dame du Burgo is a small chapel near Grand-Champ in Brittany with stone walls and a roof covered in traditional tiles. The simple structure shows building techniques from earlier times and is surrounded by forest and fields.
The chapel was built in the 16th century by local lords and stands as a witness to a period of peace in Brittany. In January 1800, it served as a gathering point for the Chouans army under Georges Cadoudal, making it an important site in regional history.
The chapel holds deep meaning for the local community of Grand-Champ, representing generations of faith and devotion. Its name comes from the hills that surround it, and it continues to be a symbol of regional religious and cultural identity.
The chapel is reached by a forest path on foot, as vehicle access is not possible directly to the building. There is a parking area near a spring where the walk begins.
The chapel served as a gathering place for the Chouans army in 1800, yet today only ruins remain after a tower collapsed in 1931. The Bro Gregam association has since excavated and stabilized the site to prevent complete deterioration.
