Château de Coët-Candec

Château de Coët-Candec is a medieval fortification in Brittany featuring a central tower and thick stone walls typical of the region. The structure displays the defensive design and construction methods characteristic of the period when it was built.

The fortress was built around 1350 by a local noble family on the foundations of earlier fortifications. It served as a family residence through generations before experiencing periods of neglect and restoration efforts in modern times.

This castle served as a residence for local nobility for centuries and remains a focal point in the landscape around Locmaria-Grand-Champ. The structure reflects the living traditions and architectural choices of the families who called it home.

The site is now in the care of a community group dedicated to its preservation and regular maintenance. Visitors should check conditions in advance as access may be limited depending on ongoing restoration work.

Two richly decorated chimneys from the 16th century were removed to the Château des Rohan at Pontivy in 1961 to ensure their survival. These carved stone pieces are now part of a different castle's collection far from their original home.
