Château de Buisson-Rond

Château de Buisson-Rond is a stone castle in Chambéry with a distinctive rounded shape and multiple elegant interior rooms. The spaces feature mirrors, paintings spanning centuries, and galleries that were designed for hosting events and performances.

The current building was built in 1860 when Ernest, grandson of General de Boigne, redesigned and redecorated an earlier structure completely. The associated orangery was rebuilt earlier in 1841 with eight columns supporting vaulted brick ceilings.

The castle's name refers to its rounded shape, which you can see in how the building is designed. This distinctive form was used to host musical performances and gatherings, roles the rooms still suggest when you walk through them.

The grounds have been open to the public since 1973 after the municipality of Chambéry acquired the property. Visitors should plan to spend time exploring both the interior rooms and the surrounding estate.

The orangery was later used as an equestrian center, showing an unexpected shift in how the building served the community. This dual history makes it an interesting example of how spaces adapt over time.
