La Sasson, Bronze statue in Chambéry, France

La Sasson is a bronze statue in Chambéry depicting a woman from Savoie dressed in flowing robes and holding a flag aloft. The figure sits on a substantial base along Boulevard du Musée and can be viewed from multiple angles throughout the street.

The monument was unveiled in 1892 to mark an important moment in regional history. It reflects the connection between Savoie and the French state at a pivotal time.

The local population calls it La Sasson, a name meaning 'large woman' in the Savoyard dialect that reflects the statue's impressive size. This nickname has become embedded in how residents speak about their city and its landmarks.

The statue is located along a main street in the city center and is easily reached on foot from various parts of town. Visitors can approach it from multiple directions and access the area without difficulty.

The statue suffered damage during wartime and lost its head, a fate that marked it with an unusual history. It was carefully reconstructed later with a new head created to complete the restoration.
