La Sasson, Bronze statue in Chambéry, France

Standing at 5 meters tall, including a 2.6-meter base, La Sasson depicts a woman from Savoie wearing a flowing dress and holding a flag.

The monument was inaugurated on September 4, 1892, by French President Sadi Carnot to commemorate the centenary of Savoie's attachment to France.

The local population named it La Sasson, which translates to 'large woman' in the Savoyard dialect, referring to the statue's substantial proportions.

The statue stands on Boulevard du Musée, accessible from Chambéry train station and numerous bus lines connecting throughout the city.

During World War II, the statue was dismantled and later found headless near Hamburg, leading to its restoration with a new head in 1982.
