Château de Nuits, Renaissance castle in Nuits-sur-Armançon, France.

Château de Nuits is a castle in Nuits-sur-Armançon featuring Renaissance stone architecture with a fortified eastern facade and tall pilaster-framed windows on the west side. The building combines residential spaces with multiple defensive features integrated throughout its structure.

Construction began in 1560 under François II and was completed around 1570 under Charles IX during the French Wars of Religion. The design reflects that turbulent period when noble families needed both impressive homes and secure fortifications.

The castle reflects how noble families of its time balanced comfortable living with the need for protection through its mixed design. You can see this duality in the way rooms are arranged alongside defensive structures throughout the building.

The castle sits in a small rural town and is best reached by car or from nearby larger train stations with connections to major cities. Planning a visit works well when combining it with other regional sites in the Burgundy area.

The gunports and artillery marks visible on the outer walls show the castle actually served as a working fortress during the conflicts of its era. These markings reveal how seriously its owners took defense when religious tensions ran high in the region.
