Château de Parentignat

Château de Parentignat is a castle with a symmetrical facade featuring three bays topped by a pediment and a terrace running along one side. The structure combines classical architecture with residential rooms arranged around a central courtyard.

Construction began in 1707 when Jean-Antoine de Lastic and his nephew François II purchased the property from the Sommyèvre heirs, integrating an earlier 15th-century fortress. The building underwent successive renovations and additions as its residents adapted it to their needs over time.

The castle houses the Georges de Lastic collection of French master paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries, displayed across restored rooms that reflect the tastes of its former residents. These works give insight into the artistic interests of the families who made the place their home.

The location is accessible by train through a nearby station or by car from the Auvergne region. Visitors should check in advance whether the property is open to the public and what access arrangements are in place.

The castle retained all of its original furniture throughout the French Revolution, which was extremely rare for properties of this kind. This preservation has strengthened its reputation as one of the few aristocratic estates to survive this period largely intact.
