Château de Polignac

The Château de Polignac is a fortress built on a volcanic platform spanning about 3 hectares at 800 meters in elevation, commanding views over the Puy valley. A central tower rising about 32 meters forms the core of the structure, surrounded by ramparts and additional buildings that reflect construction from multiple periods.

The fortress was built between the 12th and 17th centuries, with its defensive structures reflecting how fortification techniques evolved over centuries. It received official protection as a classified historical monument in 1840, marking its recognition as an important site of French heritage.
