Collégiale Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul de Saint-Donat

The Collegiate Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul in Saint-Donat is an architectural complex made up of several connected buildings. The ensemble includes the collegiate church itself, the Chapel of Saint Michael, remains of a cloister, and a bell tower from the former Delphinal Palace.

In the 8th century, the Bishop of Grenoble brought the relics of Saint Donat to this location, leading to the village being renamed from Jovinzieu to Saint-Donat. These relics attracted pilgrims and prompted the development of this church complex as a major pilgrimage site.

The organ was built specifically to perform Bach's compositions and shows the role this church plays in classical music. Today concerts are held here regularly, drawing both locals and visitors from the region.

The complex is accessible to visitors year-round and serves as a central hub for cultural and community activities in the area. It is best visited during regular opening hours, especially when concerts are scheduled at the venue.

The cloister features a modern statue of Saint Donat repelling a dragon, depicting a local legend that dates back centuries. This sculpture by Jean-Louis Fournier blends ancient folk tradition with contemporary art in a historical setting.
