Grottes du Cerdon, Show cave between Cerdon and Labalme, France
The cave system extends for 1,200 meters through limestone formations, displaying a former underground river path with varying chamber temperatures between 4-14°C.
Archaeological investigations initiated in 1914 revealed multiple cave entrances that provided strategic observation points for monitoring the surrounding territories.
The cave entrance hall served as a natural facility for refining Bleu de Gex cheese in the 1930s, contributing to local food production.
The site operates from mid-April to October, offering guided tours of 75 minutes and self-guided options with downloadable audio guides in multiple languages.
The connected prehistoric park presents hands-on activities including fire-making demonstrations, pottery workshops, and traditional spear-throwing techniques.
