Lirac AOC

Lirac AOC is a wine region spanning around 700 hectares of vineyards spread across four communes on the right bank of the Rhône River. The area sits directly opposite Châteauneuf-du-Pape and produces red, white, and rosé wines according to strict regulations for each type.

The region received its official appellation status in 1947, marking recognition of its growing importance in quality wine production. Court records show that French kings and papal officials in Avignon valued the wines from here as far back as the 14th century.

The winemakers here follow methods passed down through generations, deeply rooted in local traditions. You notice throughout the vineyards how families maintain their own practices while respecting shared values about quality and craft.

When visiting, keep in mind that red wines must contain at least 40 percent Grenache Noir, while white wines can include up to 60 percent of Bourboulenc, Clairette, and Grenache Blanc. The region enjoys around 2,700 hours of sunshine annually, which is notably high and plays a key role in ripening the grapes. This intense light exposure is one reason why the wines here develop their distinctive character and flavor.
