Lirac AOC

The Lirac AOC encompasses 700 hectares of vineyards across four communes on the right bank of the Rhône River, opposite to Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

The region received its official AOC status in 1947, though its wines were already appreciated by French kings and papal courts in Avignon during the 14th century.

The wine production methods in Lirac reflect traditional Mediterranean practices, with red, white, and rosé wines made from specific grape varieties under strict regulations.

Red wines require a minimum of 40 percent Grenache Noir, while white wines can include up to 60 percent of Bourboulenc, Clairette, and Grenache Blanc varieties.

The Mediterranean climate provides 2,700 hours of annual sunshine, creating optimal conditions for grape cultivation on diverse soils including sandy limestone and rounded pebbles.
