Tavel AOC

Tavel AOC is a wine region on the right bank of the Rhone spanning about 933 hectares, with soils made of limestone, slate, and sandy rock. Cellars and wine routes run throughout the area, allowing visitors to explore the production zones.

The region gained importance in the 14th century when the papal court in Avignon created demand for its wines. This early recognition laid the foundation for its later official status.

Grenache and Cinsault grapes define this place, where strict rules shape how winemaking happens in every cellar. Visitors see this tradition expressed in the vineyards and pressing rooms throughout the region.

The area is best explored on foot or by car, with many cellars offering visits and tastings without advance booking. Using the marked wine routes helps with navigation and reveals different parts of the vineyards.

This is the only French wine region dedicated entirely to rosé production, maintaining this focus since its official recognition in 1936. This single-minded specialization sets it apart from all other wine areas.
