Musée Asiatica

The Musée Asiatica is an ethnographic museum in Biarritz displaying artworks and objects from India, China, Tibet, and Nepal across carefully arranged exhibitions. The galleries feature sculptures, ceramics, painted scrolls, and ritual items that show the artistic traditions of these regions.

Michel Postel founded the museum in 1999 using pieces from his personal collection gathered during travels across Asia. The works span different periods, showing artistic development across these cultures from medieval times onward.

The collections reflect how different Asian societies expressed their beliefs and daily practices through art and sacred objects. You can observe how religious traditions shaped the creation of sculptures, paintings, and ritual items across centuries.

The museum sits in central Biarritz and is easily reached on foot from downtown. The galleries are laid out on a single level, making it simple for everyone to explore.

Several pieces come from less-familiar artistic centers like Tamil Nadu and the Ganges Valley region. These works display craftsmanship and styles you rarely encounter in Western collections.
