Musée Massey, Art museum and history gallery in Tarbes, France
The Massey Museum is an art museum housed in a building with Moorish design influences, located in central Tarbes. The rooms display paintings, sculptures, and historical objects across its main galleries.
Botanist Placide Massey founded the institution in 1853 by donating his residence and collection. From its origins as a natural history museum, it gradually transformed into an art institution.
The collection features paintings and sculptures from Dutch, Flemish, French, and Italian artists spanning several centuries. These works were assembled over time through donations and form the heart of the display.
The museum can be accessed from the north side through its gardens and features wheelchair-accessible entrances. Guided tours are available, though opening hours vary with the seasons.
The museum houses an international collection of hussar uniforms with around 150 complete outfits from about 30 countries. This collection spans more than 15,000 objects and documents four centuries of cavalry history.
