Feu de la Pyramide

Feu de la Pyramide, Stone lighthouse in Bénodet, France

Feu de la Pyramide is a stone beacon located on the left bank of the Odet River mouth in Benodet and stands approximately 48 meters tall. Its three red flashes every twelve seconds create a recognizable navigation signal for vessels on the water.

The original nine meter tower from 1848 was enlarged to about 38 meters in 1887, then rebuilt in 1950 following damage from German forces during World War II. The structure has maintained its navigation role since its initial construction.

This beacon serves as a key navigation reference point alongside Sainte-Marine lighthouse and Coq beacon, helping maintain safe passage into the Odet estuary. Local residents and visitors recognize it as an important landmark in the harbor landscape.

The automated light beam extends approximately 14 nautical miles across the water and has been operated without resident keepers since 1993. The structure is not open to public access, but its red flashes are visible from various spots along the harbor.

The name comes from a stone pyramid that marks the Odet River entrance and can be spotted from considerable distances. This feature helped sailors historically identify the river mouth.
