The port, first mentioned in 1544, replaced the older Port de Beaumont which was abandoned in the 16th century due to silting.
The port maintains an active fishing tradition, with fishermen pursuing catches like lamprey and meagre in the waters of the Gironde estuary.
The harbor features green spaces, walking paths, and a basin for sailing lessons provided by the local sailing school.
During the 1950s, Port-Maubert was a significant sturgeon fishing site, yielding up to 5 tons annually for caviar production.
