Château de Beaulon

Château de Beaulon is a Renaissance castle featuring stone facades with Gothic and Renaissance elements, flanked by symmetrical wings and cylindrical corner towers crowned with distinctive roofs. The interior spaces flow through interconnected rooms that blend practical medieval designs with the refined details characteristic of later Renaissance periods.

The castle was built around 1480 and served as the principal residence of the Bishops of Bordeaux for centuries. It gained protected status during the 20th century and was formally registered as a historical monument in 1972.

The castle gardens, established in 1942, combine French formal design with English landscape elements, earning recognition from the French Ministry of Culture.

The castle grounds are explored through guided visits, with parking available near the entrance and facilities adapted for visitors with mobility needs. The gardens can be walked on marked paths, so wear comfortable shoes as the terrain and grass surfaces vary throughout the property.

The landscape park features the Fontaines Bleues, natural springs distinguished by an unusual bright blue color that catches visitors' attention. Within the gardens stands a 1740 dovecote with hundreds of nesting holes, a relic that speaks to the historical operations of the estate.
