Porte d'Aquitaine, City gate at Place de la Victoire, Bordeaux, France.

The Porte d'Aquitaine features a rectangular structure with Corinthian columns, displaying a prominent pediment crowned by a round arch and adorned with medallions.

Built between 1750 and 1755 during Louis XV's reign, this gate marked one of six entrances through Bordeaux's ancient walls and regulated city access.

The gate exhibits decorative elements including the coat of arms of Bordeaux, the Great Bell symbol, and reliefs depicting sea gods and fleurs-de-lis.

Located at the entrance of Rue Sainte-Catherine, the gate serves as a central reference point for navigating through Bordeaux's historical district.

During the 19th century, the structure contained a prison facility, and in World War II, it functioned as a shelter during air raids.
