Hôtel Saint-François

Hôtel Saint-François is a private mansion in the Saint-Michel quarter, positioned at the intersection of Rue Saint-François and Rue Mirail. Its facades display elaborate decorative details with baroque-inspired elements and balconies supported by ornamental statues.

Construction took place between 1854 and 1868 under the direction of architect Antoine Théodore Audubert. The building replaced an earlier residence that belonged to the Counts of Estrades, who served as mayors during the reign of Louis XIV.

The main staircase displays carved reliefs showing famous monuments from around the world, which visitors encounter as they move through the building. Today, contemporary art shows take place here, bringing new life to these historical spaces.

The mansion is located on Rue Saint-François and accessible via tram line B at Musée d'Aquitaine station or lines A, C, and D at Porte de Bourgogne station. Availability for visitors depends on current exhibitions and private events, so it is worth checking opening conditions in advance.

The building was remarkably advanced for its era, featuring running water and gas lines on every floor. A rooftop laundry facility served tenants, making it an unusually convenient place to live for the 1800s.
