Pla d'Adet, Ski resort in Saint-Lary-Soulan, France
Pla d'Adet is a ski resort in the French Pyrenees, linked to the village of Saint-Lary-Soulan, with slopes running between roughly 1,700 feet and 8,200 feet (500 m and 2,500 m) in elevation. The resort is divided into several sectors connected by a network of lifts, offering runs across all levels from gentle slopes to steeper descents.
The resort was created in 1957, when Saint-Lary-Soulan began developing its mountain slopes for winter visitors. Over the following decades, the lift network grew steadily, turning the area into one of the main ski destinations in the French Pyrenees.
The name Pla d'Adet comes from the Occitan language and refers to a flat grazing area, pointing to the pastoral life that shaped this mountain before skiing arrived. Restaurants on the slopes still serve dishes from the Pyrenean valley below, keeping a connection to the food traditions of Saint-Lary-Soulan.
The resort can be reached from the center of Saint-Lary-Soulan by gondola, or by car directly to the mountain base where parking is available. Checking the current trail status before heading out is a good idea, since conditions can vary from one sector to another depending on elevation.
Pla d'Adet has a snow park with kickers, rails, and a dedicated freestyle area set apart from the main runs, making it visible from the slopes below. This spot draws small crowds of onlookers who stop to watch riders during busy periods.
