After the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, this fortress became part of the enhanced defense system protecting Paris, constructed between 1875 and 1879.
The fortress represents French military architecture of the Third Republic period, incorporating the advanced Séré de Rivières fortification principles.
Currently operated by the French military, the fort functions as a training facility for special forces and maintains restricted access to the public.
In 1956, the fort transformed into the national headquarters for Air Force communications, utilizing its elevated position for radio transmission networks.
