Lac de la Cavayère covers approximately 247 acres (100 hectares) and is surrounded by pine forests, hills, and Mediterranean scrubland, offering sandy beaches and shaded grassy areas for relaxation and outdoor activities.

Visitors can access the lake by car via the RD 6113 road with free parking, by bicycle following trails from Carcassonne, or on foot using the GR36 hiking path, which takes approximately 90 minutes from the medieval city.
The lake offers year-round fishing for predatory species including perch, pike, zander, and black bass, with a designated float tube fishing zone available from September through June for permit holders.
