The Église Notre-Dame d'Annonay is a parish church built in the Byzantine Revival style, located in the center of Annonay, in the Ardèche department of France. The building follows a Latin cross floor plan and contains stained glass windows, wood carvings, statues, and a large organ.
A church has stood on this site since the 6th century, and the location remained a place of worship through the medieval period and beyond. The current building was designed by architects Rey and Allengry from Valence and construction began in 1904, with the church opening for services in the mid-20th century.
The church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and scenes from her life appear throughout the interior in stained glass and sculpture. The marble altar in the transept, which depicts the Assumption of Mary surrounded by the apostles, was originally made for an earlier church on the same site.
The church sits in the center of Annonay and is easy to reach on foot from the main parts of town. Visiting outside of service times gives you more space to walk around and look at the interior details.
The organ inside the church is classified as a historic object, making it one of the few protected musical instruments in the region. During events such as European Heritage Days, it can sometimes be heard played live, which draws visitors who would not otherwise come for a religious service.
